HISTORY

The Van Diemen Seafoods Group was incorporated in the year 1998 with a holding company based in the Isle of Man.

The philosophy behind Van Diemen Seafoods was and is to be the world-leading wholesale provider of live crustaceans and shellfish as well as other live seafood products and high-valued processed fish products.

Van Diemen Seafoods was named after Anthony Van Diemen, one of the former governors of current Indonesia and the initiator behind the discovery by Abel Tasman of Van Diemen's land.

COMPANY

The main holding company in Singapore controls various daughter companies in Africa and the British Virgin Islands. The Singapore office is currently the reporting center for both sales and operations of the group.

1. Production

Production of Ruby Crabs and Spiny Lobsters are done by the offices in Africa, who supply the other offices with live crabs and lobsters which is in turn sold wholesale to markets in the Far East, Europe and the UAE.

2. Sourcing

The company has contracts with other producers of live crustaceans and shell fish as well as frozen marine products in China, Europe, South America and East Africa where the company procures product on a FOB basis and through its distribution and marketing network sell these products to the various markets.

3. Transportation and Distribution

The company has developed technically advanced live product holding facilities which it operates in East Africa. The company further more has perfected the art of transportation and distribution of live seafood products resulting in minimum moralities well below market standards.

4. Research and Development

There is a close cooperation with the University of Kent, Belgium as well as the Technical University of Delft, Netherlands and various other world class institutes with whom various studies are being conducted in relation to the transportation and management of live seafood.

5a. Wholesale

The majority of the wholesale trade takes place out of the Singapore offices where products are sourced worldwide and sold mainly in the Far East. Large quantities of American lobsters, Australian lobsters, African lobsters and crabs, razor clams from the Netherlands as well as six different types of oysters are sold wholesale by the Singapore office.

Currently the total product range includes approximately five different species of live lobsters, three different species of live crabs, eight different species of oysters and clams. Small quantities of frozen, high-valued products like lobster tails, dried fish maw, dried shark fin and dried sea cucumber are traded as well.

5b. Retail

Retail sales are conducted from Singapore where mainly Ruby Crab originating from Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania and Somalia is sold to retail clients.
